Caitlyn Jenner, 71, filed papers to run for the position of California’s governor.
The former Olympic Athlete and reality TV Star will be running in opposition to Gavin Newsom in the upcoming recall election happening in California later this year.
Caitlyn is going full force to get the voters on her side. In her latest tweet, she has made one promise to the voters that she decides to fulfill once she is elected as governor.
After slamming Newsom as a “corrupt career politician” who’s out to “buy” votes, Caitlyn turned her attention to supporters of cancel culture, otherwise known as consequences for one’s actions.
“When elected Governor of California, I will CANCEL, cancel culture and wake up the woke,” Caitlyn wrote on Twitter.
“Cancel Culture” is a term that has grown recently on social media. It simply means “canceling” something or someone who has spoken or behaved in a controversial manner.
According to the dictionary, it is a pop-culture term that is defined as “withdrawing support from famous personalities and companies after they have done something obstructive and controversial”.
Woke, on the other hand, is a term frequently used by individuals on the right and given to progressive people who they believe are too open-minded. It leans itself to the notion that being “woke” means you are awake to the injustices and issues that are plaguing society.
Although no one knows how Caitlyn will execute her plans, she believes she will be a strong candidate for the intensely contested Governorship of California.
Several tweets have surfaced online on how electing Caitlyn as a Governor will create more issues for the people than solve them. She has been trolled and called out on the microblogging platform for her controversial views regarding the LGBTQ+ community and society in general.
A recent poll by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and the LA Times found that only 36 percent of voters actually want to get rid of Newsom, and Jenner has by far the lowest support of all the four prominent Republican candidates.
Gavin Newsom, the current Democratic Governor of California, is facing a recall vote after the voters got angry with the actions he implemented to protect citizens during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Caitlyn told CNN in an interview that her background in being an entrepreneur has prepared her for running as Governor in the huge state.
“I have been in the entrepreneurial world. People think – you’ve been in show business, think of you as a reality star,” she told CNN. “Certainly, I’ve done that, but entertainment is a business, and you have to run that business.”
Caitlyn has also put an end to reports saying that her own family does not support her campaign.
Speaking to CBS This Morning on Wednesday (26 May), Caitlyn Jenner insisted she did not want her family involved in her political run.
“I did speak with all my children and I said, “Hey, I don’t want one tweet, I don’t want you – this is my deal,” she said. “I said if anybody asks any questions in the media – because obviously, they are in the media – I just said, say “no comment,” address your comment to me.”
