During a recent finale of Saturday Night Live, artist Lil Nas X experiences a wardrobe malfunction while performing his controversial hit song, Montero (Call Me By Your Name) on national television.
The 22-year-old rapper had split his pants as he danced next to a stripper pole. Moments after the stage had ended, the artist tweeted that he just “wanted to do my pole routine so bad [and] this [is] what I get!”
Lil Nas X was wearing leather pants and it split in the middle of his performance due to his choreography during the part where he sings, “I’m not fazed, only here to sin / If Eve ain’t in your garden, you know that you can.”
He managed to cover up the area that had been ripped throughout the performance by holding his hand over the area that had been ruined, continuing to perform until he finished.
The Old Town Road star had managed to be calm and collected, but rushed to his social media platforms, Twitter and TikTok, to share his true feelings and embarrassment from such a slip up.
He tweets. “NOT MY PANTS RIPPED ON LIVE ON TV.” He reflects on what had happened and fans went to react to his wardrobe malfunction, providing him with memes and a user was noticed by comparing the moment with an episode in Spongebob Squarepants where he had also ripped his pants.
He anticipated to have a great performance, that he would be able to go out there and “just murder it.” Though, there was no way in saving his pants after they split.
Other people have praised his ability to complete his performance as he kept his cool, some wondered what his performance and reaction would have been if his pants hadn’t ripped.
The artist was a musical guest for Anna Taylor-Joy, a celebrity that has starred in popular Netflix series, The Queen’s Gambit.
Earlier this month, Lil Nas X has stated that he “doesn’t care about being a role model” since it’s “not his job,” hoping that fans will just follow his footsteps on doing whatever they wish to do.
He also had to reflect on his song that deemed to be controversial in which he responds: “Part of my plan is to make sure people know I’m going to do whatever the f**k I want, when I want to, and if you’re mad at it, I’m going to laugh in your face.
