22-month-old Mia Villegas was diagnosed two weeks after her parents noticed that she was not as cheerful as before.

Tests revealed multiple tumors on her spine and brain, but despite undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, the young girl passed away.

Villegas spoke about his daughter’s health last month when he played a Korn Ferry Tour.

The father-of-one sounded positive about Mia’s chances after sharing her illness. He told reporters at that time: “Hopefully, it’s just a bump in the road for her, and for us, and we’ll be celebrating that day that she’s clean.”

He then started to break down in tears while describing her symptoms.

“She was always a little monkey around the gym, and I noticed she wasn’t being the little monkey she always was,” he expressed. “I don’t know why, I just kind of got a bad feeling.”

Villegas then told reporters that his daughter would wake up crying many times. “Bad feelings crossed my mind,” he said. “I had heard bad stories her and there. So I told my wife about (those) concerns. She told me not to think like that.”

Sadly, the surgery in March didn’t stop the problem. “After the surgery, when it was time to remove the stitches, they learned the growth had become pretty aggressive,” Villegas said.

“We were told we needed to start treatment right away, so they kept us there.”

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said: “The PGA TOUR is deeply saddened having lost a member of our family, Mia Villegas.”
