Brexit petition is the hottest news of the country today as the petition that demands the revoke of article 50 of the treaty has gained enormous support by the public.
A petition that urges Prime Minister Theresa May to cancel Article 50, which is a part of the Treaty of the European Union that grants permission to countries to withdrew their participation.
Well, the petition has crossed the count of a million signature and it is still growing. On Saturday, the petition had around 4.7 million signatures on it which made it the most popular petition in the country ever.
According to the stated laws of the parliament, any petition that receives more than 10,000 signatures will receive a response by the government of Britain and any petition that crosses the line of 100,000 signatures will be taken in for a debate in the House of Commons.
By the numbers of signature we can see on the petition, it is clear that it has already been taken up for the debate. The more significant thing is that it has been the topic of the debate for about 3 years now.
It had been mentioned by the authorities that the existing EU was a public decision although they said that no votes on the same will be taken by the public.
That is what the petition was made for. There were millions and millions of people willing to participate to show that the claim was not true.
The petition received 4.7 million signature before the site crashed down. The sheets of the petition crossed the capacity of the website so it crashed down.
Andrea Leadsom, the head of the House of Commons said “There would have been a clearer action if the petition had over 17.4 million signatures on it. Yes, it has become clear that people do not have an opportunity to speak or present their views.”
European Court of Justice gave out the new rule stating that Article 50 can be revoked if the UK parliament wishes for it. Guess that is why people are so eager to take the only opportunity they got to take it down.
