The inventor of Jelly Belly has released cannabis-infused jelly beans, having anti-inflammatory, pain-reducing, and calming effects.
The new CBD jelly beans contain cannabidiol. They are created by David Klein, the man who invented Jelly Belly jelly beans in 1976.
In an interview with Cannabis Aficionado, Klein called the mini sugary treat and marijuana to be a perfect match.
‘The jelly bean is perfect for the proper dosage [of CBD],’ he said.
Klein’s new jelly beans won’t get someone high because they don’t contain THC, the part of marijuana which gets someone high.
The new jellies will be sold through Klein’s company, Spectrum Confections, and it appears the company has already sold out all of the new candy on its website.
The online store provided candies in three purchase options – original, sour, or sugar-free – all of which were sold in 800-piece packages.
There were 38 flavors of the jelly beans including piña colada, toasted marshmallow, strawberry cheesecake, spicy licorice, mango, and cinnamon.
‘I love candy,’ Klein said. ‘Not a day goes by where not only do I eat candy in some form, but I think about new candy ideas.’
He decided to make CBD jelly beans when he was unable to find them for himself in the market.
‘We are putting 10 ml in each [bean]. If people want a small dose, they eat one. If they want 20 ml, they can eat two,’ he said.
‘They can decide what their proper dosage is.’
Klein used a unique process to infuse CBD into the jelly beans, which is currently patent-pending, according to the New York Daily News.
CBD jelly beans are new but several other CBD edibles and candies are available from quite a time.
Last year in September, By Chloe, a New York-based vegan bakery, introduced CBD-infused snacks in their two-week pop-up cafe called Feelz by Chloe.
By Chloe created plant-based treats infused with CBD oil by collaborating with a weed-focused start-up, Nice Paper, and a CBD brand, Toast.
The treats included granola, push pops, mini pies, beverages, popcorn, dog treats, and rice krispies treats.
‘I am a big believer in the benefits of CBD and the potential of this ever-expanding industry,’ Co-Founder and Creative Director of By Chloe, Samantha Wasser, said.
‘After seeing the overwhelming positive response we received from the Daily Hit Brownie earlier this year, I was inspired to create a full line of CBD-infused sweets for our By Chloe customers.’
CBD-infused gummy candy is also being made by an endless list of brands including PureKana, Premium Jane, and Green Roads.
