Captain Rosie Wild, the 28-year-old Army officer became the first woman ever to clear the All Arms Pre-Parachute Selection.
Popularly called the ‘P Company,’ this is actually the toughest course outside Special Forces. Captain Wild was given her prestigious maroon beret at the parade organized in the Catterick region of North Yorkshire.
P Company is known as one of the most physically challenging courses in the world, and clearing it is truly an amazing achievement by the Captain.
For the soldiers to pass this grueling test, they need to complete eight difficult tests in total.
It includes a ten-mile march through difficult terrain with the complete kit, facing an assault course located 55ft over the ground, and running a race while carrying a log of 132 lbs.
There is also a two-mile march to be completed within eighteen minutes while carrying a helmet, a rifle, water, and a 35 lbs.
Captain Wild will become a part of the seventh Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. Her new role would be all about supporting the Air-Assault Task Force of the Army.
This is a proud moment for the Captain, and certainly for other women in the task force, who would be encouraged to take this course. The sentiment was also echoed in the words of Brigadier John Clark.
Brigadier John Clark lauded the achievements of Captain Wild. He mentioned that the All Arms Pre-Parachute course was opened for women’s participation since the 1990s, and in fact, there have been several women who have tried to achieve this feat.
But, only Captain Wild has been successful so far, which makes her a trailblazer. Here’s hoping that her efforts will encourage more women to undertake the challenge.
