18-year-old Majid Ali left a 24-year-old woman partially blind in one eye after attacking her with a hammer as he tried to steal her car.
Detectives managed to trace the stolen car within the day and the teen was identified as the prime suspect. A warrant was executed and the weapon he used was found under a sofa.
Ali, who denied possession of an offensive weapon, wounding, and robbery, was convicted after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
He has been imprisoned for 9 years.
According to reports, Ali repeatedly struck Blythe Mason-Boyle with a hammer across the head before taking her car. The victim suffered a fractured eye socket and cuts to her face.
Police have posted a photo of Mason-Boyle after the sentencing of the teen.
Mason-Boyle has received counseling to overcome the trauma but she still struggles to see clearly through one eye.
She said in a statement released by police: “This has been a challenging and frustrating 10 months, but justice has been served.
“I would like to think this carries the message that under no circumstances is it ever justified to attack any vulnerable person for a materialistic object. I can finally move forward with a life that’s been on hold and bring closure to this chapter.”
Detective Constable Rebecca Woodcock said: “This was a ferocious attack on a defenceless woman whose injuries sadly continue to impact her today.
“(Miss Mason-Boyle) has suffered both physical and emotional pain.
“(Ali) has refused to take responsibility for what he did but we’ve helped to ensure he has time to reflect on his savage actions off the streets.”
