A cat was banned from entering his favorite Tesco store has been seen lounging on the self-service checkouts.
Pumpkin became an “unexpected item in the bagging area” of a Tesco branch near Norwich as he was spotted on the scanner.
The 6-year-old cat had been a regular in the Thorpe Marriott branch for well over a year before the shop took action last November, saying “although we love the little ginger cat who visits… a food store isn’t the best place for a cat to be, so our colleagues gently encourage him to go out when he tries to come in.”
A spokesman stated that it was not possible for a store to ban a cat and Pumpkin would probably continue visiting there. Local customers claimed they would boycott the store after Pumpkin was ‘banned’.
Although a shopper spotted Pumpkin back in his favorite place, sitting on the self-serve scanner. The shopper who spotted the cat clicked the picture of the Pumpkin and posted on social media.
People celebrated the disobedient cat as a “rebel.” Pumpkin’s owner Jo Harding often comes to the shop after work and finds her cat outside. She tells him to “come home for your tea” and he will run after her.
Reacting to the latest photograph of him, she said: “Pumpkin is taking no notice of his ban.”
When the ‘ban’ was first announced, Jo admitted that her feline was ‘a little confused’ by it. ‘I’ve no idea why Pumpkin’s been asked to leave now,’ Jo said at the time: ‘They say he’s banned but I’m not sure how they’re going to keep him out.’
Jo formed a Facebook page which she dedicated to Pumpkin and his antics. The private group now has more than 2,000 members and locals share pictures of the feline when strolling around the store.
