If you’ve ever owned a cat, you know that they’re in a league of their own as far as pets go.

Where dogs are enthusiastic attention-seekers who would do almost anything to please, you can imagine cats raising one eyebrow at such a preposterous show of behavior.

Watch this cat chill out in the most adorable way in the video below.

In fact, cats are more likely to turn their back on you and get about their own business as they are to even deign to notice you. Of course, if they’re hungry they may rub against your leg a few times and if you’re not snappy about it, they may even bite you, just to remind you of your shortcomings.

But cats are observant creatures who like to watch proceedings from some sort of perch. But the cat in the following video goes even beyond that because he’s actually watching from a laptop screen while leaning back in luxury with some headphones on.

While this may look unusual, Dr. Jillian Orlando, DVM, who is a behavioral veterinarian at the University of North Carolina School of Veterinary Medicine, cats are more likely than not to watch “the real-life soap opera” that happens outside the house.

In fact, a study of some shelter cats found that felines that don’t have access to windows could benefit from watching television or videos played on a computer screen to entertain themselves.

“Make sure you have lots of toys and windows so your cat has a choice,” says Dr. Orlando.

But just like children, you also need to regulate what types of shows a cat watches.

“If your cat really tries to ‘hunt’ in the videos, don’t let her watch without supervision. And if you have a large flat screen or laptop, secure it or you can fix it to the wall, in case your cat decides to jump towards it,” warns Dr. Orlando.

And in order to distract cats who might want to catch things they see on-screen, it’s often a good idea to interact with them.

Dr. Orlando says, “Try to distract your cat by giving her a toy before ‘catching’ things on the screen. You definitely don’t want to encourage the cat to chase the mouse on TV, no matter how cute it may seem.”
