A male cat who was jailed for allegedly trying to smuggle cell phone SIM cards and illegal substances escaped from his prison cell!
According to a police official, a memory chip, two SIM cards, and two grams of heroin were discovered in a small plastic bag tied around the feline’s neck.
The cat was detained at Sri Lanka’s main prison but it managed to escape, the Aruna newspaper reported.
According to the prison, people have been throwing phone chargers, cellphones, and small bags of drugs over the walls in the past few weeks.
The country is currently fighting against a major drug problem. Just last week, officers seized an eagle allegedly used to distribute drugs in a suburb of Colombo.
Officials at the Welikada Prison intercepted 3.5 grams of heroin, 264 batteries, 20 SIM cards, and 38 cell phones last month, the Colombo Gazette reported.
15 people have been arrested but it is not clear how many cats were used to smuggle drugs.
One Facebook user commented: “The cat told to himself .. why me ! Ok i will bring you to him the one who tie around me. Use your common sense im just a cat. Hahahaha.”
Another wrote: “Well hes not the guilty one, he couldn’t have possibly tied them around his neck.”
A third added: “Ok if you let me i call my cat and help to interrogate to find who ever was behind this.”
Someone else added: “further evidence that in 2020 we entered into the twilight zone.”
