A photo of a cat walking on the stairs has gone viral after people failed to agree on the animal’s direction.
As seen in the photo in question, the feline is walking on the stairs with its head focused on the camera and its tail standing proudly in the back.
What people couldn’t agree on, however, was whether the cat is walking up or down the stairs. Take a close look at the photo and let us know what you think is the correct answer!
Though many people were quick to suggest that the cat was walking upstairs while trying to approach the person taking a photo of it, others shared valid arguments to prove them otherwise.
Following a social media turmoil, Insider’s Megan Willett-Wei went on a mission to prove that the cat is indeed walking down the stairs.
Among other ‘proof’ shared by the publication, Megan pointed out that the riser is facing the camera with the nose of the stairs extending across it, meaning that the cat is walking downstairs.
Megan also insisted that the shadows created by the overhanging nose indicate that the light is coming from above and that the cat is walking downstairs.
While some people suggested that stair noses are actually stair grips, social media users were quick to debunk this theory saying grips would not be raised this much due to safety reasons.
Others also focused on the cat and suggested its posture, the tail and the position of the head in particular, prove that the cat is going down and not up.
“When my cat goes up stairs, he kind of hops up them. Front paws first, then back ones, and on up. It’s only when he’s coming back down that he actually walks one paw at a time. That and the position of the ledge makes me pretty sure it’s down,” someone wrote.
Though many netizens insisted the cat is undeniably going down the stairs, some people remain convinced it’s going up the stairs. The question is, what do you think is the right answer?
