Cate Blanchett, the Australian actress acclaimed for her method acting, has said that she might have suffered DIY accident involving no other instrument than a chainsaw, with the potential of it turning out to be a major catastrophe.
The double Oscar claimant, now 51 years old, self described her injuries as being a ‘little nick to the head’ while using the saw, avoiding critical injuries. She has revealed this in an exclusive podcast with the former PM of Australia Julia Gillard last week.
Cate mentioned the incident in passing, telling Gillard it wasn’t very ‘exciting’.
She said: ‘I’m fine.
I had a bit of a chainsaw accident yesterday, which sounds very, very exciting, but it wasn’t. Apart from the little nick to the head, I’m fine. ’ Gillard replied: ‘Be very careful with that chainsaw. You’ve got a very famous head, I don’t think people would like to see any nicks taken out of it.
’ Cate, who was born and raised in Melbourne, lives in a $6. 25million-worth estate of the Highwell House near Crowborough, about an hour south of London. She is married to playwright and director Andrew Upton, with four children under their wings: Dashiell 18, Roman, 16, Ignatius, 12 and Edith, five.
The family previously lived in Hunters Hill, Sydney, before relocating to the UK.She also revealed other aspects about the quarantine life, pulling out sundry points and new revelations that she has discovered while being cooped up in the estate with her family in a long while.
She said she had taken a year off work to help her eldest son, Dashiell, through his A-levels, the British equivalent of HSC exams.
‘I took the year off ostensibly to be with him and support him through exam period,’ she explained.‘And then all of this exam stuff evaporated [because of school closures] and I’m left with an 18-year-old who doesn’t really want to have anything to do with me! So it’s a little bit discombobulating, but it’s a high-class problem, we’re all well.
’
The Elizabeth star joked that instead of tutoring a teenager, she found herself ‘being a kindergarten teacher to my five-year-old, which is just as challenging’. ‘I have a huge respect for the teaching profession. I always have,’ she added.
