CBS is reportedly paying Oprah Winfrey $7 to $9 million to air her interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as tensions between the couple and the Buckingham Palace continue to escalate.
The Sussexes are expected to spill all about their exit from the Royal family, with the network forking out up to $9 million for the rights to air the bombshell interview.
Short trailers show the Duchess of Sussex accusing the Royal Family of “perpetuating falsehoods” about them as she called the palace “The Firm.”
The interview will be aired first in the US on Sunday night despite calls to put it on hold while Harry’s grandfather, Prince Philip, recovers in a hospital.
Despite the whopping license fee for Winfrey, representatives for Meghan and Harry said that they are not being paid for the appearance.
But experts believe the publicity is expected to attract more interest in the couple and will help propel the $1 billion brand they want to build in the US.
According to reports, Meghan and Harry have already secured deals with the likes of Netflix after their dramatic exit from the palace for a new ‘quiet’ life.
In December, the couple announced an exclusive deal with Spotify for their Archewell Audio podcast.
In the latest teaser released on Friday, Winfrey recalls she contacted Meghan to asked for an interview months before the wedding but she declined as it was “not the right time.”
When Winfrey asked why she was speaking out now, the former actress answered: “Well, so many things. That we’re on the other side of a lot of – a lot of life experience that’s happened, and also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn’t have said yes to you then.”
In another clip, Meghan accuses the Royal Family of “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and Harry.
“I don’t know how they could expect that, after all this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.”
“And, if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean, I… there is a lot that has been lost already,” she said.
