Due to the increasing cases of measles, mumps, and rubella at an early age, a senior GP has asked to make MMR vaccine a compulsion for four and five-year-olds.
Children should not get admission in primary school if they haven’t got MMR vaccine. A group of four GPs has written a letter to the ministers stating the severity of the issue. They also highlighted the importance of awareness among the parents regarding the vaccine.
Just like smallpox vaccine was made compulsory for children born after 1853, MMR vaccine should be made a mandatory vaccine for children before the situation worsen.
Royal Society for Public Health and Social Media spread misleading information regarding the MMR vaccine by quoting that these vaccines can give rise to health conditions like autism in kids.
Many medical associations have come forward and said schools should check whether all their pupils have been right vaccinated. Acknowledging the seriousness of the issue, a school official should make vaccination certificated necessary during the school admissions.
Last month there were a majority number of mumps cases recorded. There were a total of 2,028 cases between April and June. Measles cases also increased to 301. Such staggering figures have left the government thinking about the severity of the issue.
Another statistics published in the British Medical Journal revealed that 87.2% of five-year-olds are receiving both doses of MMR. It is still below 95% recommendation given by the World Health Organization.
Government is taking the initiative to spread awareness among the people about the importance of the MMR vaccine and the severity of measles, mumps, and rubella.
The Prime Minister Boris Johnson also encouraged parents and asked them to please get their kids vaccinated in order to safeguard their health.
