Cecelia Ahern Announced A Sequel Of P.S. I Love You

S. I Love You or watched the 2007 adaptation of the novel, chances are, you might have wept for an entire week over Holly and Gerry’s love story.

And now, it’s time you grab a tissue again because Ahern has penned down a follow up to the romantic drama.

Taking to Twitter and Instagram, the Irish author announced that she has completed a sequel to the international bestseller P.S. I Love You.

“I have news! BIG NEWS! I’ve done it. I’ve written the sequel to PS I LOVE YOU and it’s titled POSTSCRIPT,” the 37-year-old wrote.

“It’s the P.S to my P.S of 15 years ago and writing it has been an emotional experience.”

She added: “I don’t know how I’ve succeeded in keeping this a secret for so long but I’ve been bursting to share it.”

Ahern revealed that her upcoming novel would be released in Ireland and Britain on September 19, 2019.

“POSTSCRIPT will be published September 19th in the UK & Ireland. I hope you’ll welcome back Holly…and Gerry…and ugly cry through the story as much as I did,” she said.

In case you haven’t yet read the novel or watched the movie based on it, P.S. I Love You follows the story of Holly and Gerry – a happily married couple whose almost-perfect lives get torn apart after Gerry is diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Unable to cope with her beloved’s untimely death, Holly gets stunned after finding out Gerry wrote 10 letters to her before his death, with each letter ending at ‘P.S. I love you.’

All of the letters contain moving messages, which ultimately guide Holly out of her mourning and help her move toward a normal life.

The emotional love story was turned into a box office hit of the same name in 2007, with Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank bringing the iconic characters to life.

According to HarperCollins, the upcoming sequel, “Postscript will revisit Holly Kennedy, seven years after her husband’s death, and Ahern described the novel as a ‘deeply emotional project.’

“It will be published in hardback, trade paperback, eBook and audio by HarperCollins on 19th September 2019. Grand Central Publishing will publish in the United States.”

In the highly-anticipated release, a group of people calling themselves the ‘P.S. I Love You Club’ will approach Holly.

According to the synopsis of Postscript, Holly’s “safe existence is turned on its head” due to the group’s entry into her life.

“Inspired by hearing about her late husband Gerry’s letters, the club wants Holly to help them with their own parting messages for their loved ones to discover after they’re gone,” the synopsis reveals.

“Holly is sure of one thing – no way is she being dragged back to the grief she has left behind. It’s taken seven years to reinvent herself, and she’s ready to move on with her life.”

It concludes: “But Holly comes to realize that when you love someone, there’s always one more thing to say.”

Ahern was just 21 years of age when P.S. I Love You was released, according to Cosmopolitan. She soon rose to fame as her novel became a global sensation.

Lynne Drew, who was the first publishing director to acquire Ahern in 2003, said: “It was unforgettable to watch the story of Holly and Gerry capture millions of hearts on page and screen, and to see a young writer take the world by storm, and I know that this thoughtful, deeply emotional sequel will capture hearts all over again. I can’t wait for people to discover Postscript.”

Ahern has written 15 more novels after P.S. I Love You. Her books have been published in 30 languages in more than 40 countries, and have sold more 25 million copies across the globe.

Speaking about Postscript, Ahern said: “Postscript is the PS to my PS and while it is a sequel, it is also a story that stands alone about living a purposeful life in the face of illness, grief, and loss.
