A couple who are married since eight decades thinks that Hershey’s chocolate is the secret of their happy married life.
Curtis, 100, and Virginia Peters, 103 share a very sweet bond and are still together and their daughter says it is all because of a chocolate bar.
Susan Peters Cathoir told TODAY Food: “Hershey’s chocolate just keeps him alive, and he keeps her alive,”
“He shares it with her all the time – he shares everything with her and she with him.”
Susan said that her parents who met during World War II at the University of Northern Iowa and got married in 1940 always keep Hershey’s in their house, with bars in the kitchen and Kisses in candy bowls.
Curtis and Virginia, live together in a nursing home in Illinois and they recently celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary. Susan visits her parents daily to make sure they are having their daily dose of chocolate.
She said: “I keep a pack in the freezer and go and give them one every day,”
“I always leave chocolate in their drawer so in case I can’t make it or I’m late, one of the [nurses] can make sure they still get it.”
While this chocolate has helped Peters to reach old age and other centenarians have also given credit to foods like eggs, bacon, and cookies.
When Curtis and Virginia celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary on May 18,2019 they had some Hershey’s chocolate bars with their family.
