Prince Charles’ allies hit back at claims that the future King “cut off” Prince Harry’s funding when the Sussexes stepped down as senior royals.
Royal insiders rejected Harry’s claims and said Charles was left feeling “let down” by his son’s remarks.
During the tell-all interview with Oprah, the Duke of Sussex said he and Meghan were forced to sign multi-million dollar deals with Spotify and Netflix as his father cut him off financially.
“My family literally cut me off financially, and I had to afford security for us,” Harry explained.
But Royal insiders rejected Harry’s claims and said that Charles made sure the couple were financially supported.
A senior source told the Evening Standard: “The Prince of Wales went out of his way to make sure his son and daughter in law were financially supported.”
Viewers were left scratching their heads as Harry and Meghan made clear that they wish to be “financially independent” when they announced their decision to step down as senior royals in January 2020.
When asked about the partnerships, Harry told Oprah that they were “never part of the plan” but they feared financial issues.
In the bombshell interview, Harry said: “I’ve got what my mum left me, and without that, we would not have been able to do this.”
The couple’s deals with Spotify and Netflix are believed to be worth as much as $110 million.
Meghan and Harry are predicted to become one of the highest-earning celebrity couple in the world with a net worth potentially stretching up to $1 billion within ten years.
According to reports, Princess Diana left £21million to her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. The Duke also received £7million from the Queen Mother’s will when she passed away in 2002.
