A brazen jewelry store heist was thwarted thanks to an alert jeweler who managed to stop the thief. No, this isn’t some fancy Ocean’s Eleven-type of story and the thief wasn’t even human. Rather, it was your good old ant!
If Ant-Man was real then the ant’s motive would be quite understandable. But an ant from the real world stealing a diamond? That’s pretty much unheard of. Bits of sugar and perhaps some food, yes, but you would hardly count jewelry thief among the list of things this little bugger would be into.
But as the saying goes, “post a video or it didn’t happen,” and that’s exactly what we have.
It’s not that the ant couldn’t do it.
After all, ants can lift an amazing 10 to 20 times their own body weight (and you thought you were strong at the gym). But it boggles the mind what an ant would want to do with a piece of jewelry. Perhaps propose to his girlfriend?Whatever the ant’s reasoning, it was only the quick eye of the jeweler that prevented this precious bit of cargo from being ferreted away.
Imagine if the ant actually managed to pull it off. The owner would be pulling his hair out at how the heist could have happened beneath their noses (as it literally almost did). The police also would’ve run into a lot of dead ends as they interviewed each and every employee and tried to weed out who was in on the “inside job.
”And it would’ve been no joke, either. Despite being the size of a crumb, such a diamond would still have cost at least a few months worth of pay. Definitely not something the insurance company would have been happy to pay out.
The almost-burglary happened on August 7, 2018, New York City, so we can say that at the very least, the ant had good taste on what establishment it wanted to hit.
But all’s well that ends well except, perhaps, for the ant who may have been forced to come home empty-handed and perhaps to a few jeers from his mates at how he wasn’t able to “bring home the bacon,” figuratively speaking.
As for the jewelry store owner and clerks, their collective sigh of relief would probably have resonated through the other end of the city.
