The disturbing call of a mom who needed help when her one-year-old child was mauled by a pit bull reveals how she slit the dog’s throat and hit it over the head to save her daughter before she passed away.
One-year-old Triniti Harrell died in the hospital after their family pet in the front yard attacked her in North Carolina. Miranda, her mother, immediately called 911 while the child was being attacked and was given instructions in an attempt to save Triniti. However, nothing worked.
The mother begged the 911 dispatcher to ‘hurry up’ and send help. The conversation starts with Harrell saying their dog was ‘attacking’ her daughter.
She said: “Hurry, she’s dying. Please hurry.”
“Can you get a hold of anything to try to get the dog off her?
“Can you try to get something to separate them? I’ve got everybody I can get en route to you,” the male dispatcher said.
He then told Miranda to put a stick in the pit bull’s mouth to try to separate her daughter from it. Then, he instructed the mother to use a pan or shovel to hit the dog and knock it out.
“Hit him with it. Hit him right in the center of the top of his head. If you hit him hard enough, you’ll knock him out,” he said.
The mom said that she was hitting the dog as hard as she could but it wasn’t helping. That’s when the male dispatcher told her to go inside and get a kitchen knife to slit the dog’s throat.
“Can you run in the house and grab a steak knife or something?
“If you will run in the house and get a knife, I will tell you how to get him off her,” he explained.
The mom replied that she couldn’t leave her daughter alone, but the dispatcher persisted. “It’ll take you 30 seconds to run in the house and grab it,” he said.
The mother ignored him and continued to scream at the animal, and the male dispatcher said: “Ma’am, yelling at him is not going to change anything. I need you to find something sharp, and I’ll explain to you how to get the dog off of her.”
When she went inside to get a knife, the dispatcher then told her: “Cut him across the bottom of his neck.
“It’s going to release his jaw muscles. He won’t have a choice but to let go.”
Miranda explained that she was trying but the blade wasn’t sharp enough to work.
The dispatcher then went on: “I need you to do anything you can do with that to make that dog let go. The dog’s life is not a concern to me at this point.”
The call dropped afterward and an off-duty police officer arrived at their home and shot the dog. Triniti was brought to the hospital right away. However, she passed away one week after the attack.
