When you’re a new parent, you take a lot of pictures of your baby.
This is especially true in this digital age — just observe any new parent around!
Look how photogenic he is! Gorgeous baby.

So naturally, Meagan Nash of Georgia, who is a mother to a beautiful boy named Asher, does the same thing. She fills her photo albums with lots and lots of pictures of Asher, and Asher sure loves being the center of attention!

Like any mom would with a baby who loves to be photographed this much, Meagan decided to send some of Asher’s photos out to agencies for modeling opportunities. OshKosh B’Gosh, a children’s apparel company, was amongst them. Asher seemed like a perfect fit for the company, since he has such a happy and bubbly personality.
But all she heard back was a no. They simply didn’t want babies with special needs.
It’s already challenging enough to raise a child with a disability, and to have the door shut on your face just because of the disability is an extremely frustrating experience. The world needs these wonderful pictures of this precious boy!
So then, Meagan took to Facebook. She posted Asher’s pictures on there instead, which is when everything started to change…
Asher’s pictures and his story went viral.
Thousands of strangers supported him and spread the word around for him.
And just a few quick months after, Meagan and Asher were invited for a meeting with the CEO and other executives of Carter’s (Carter’s is OshKosh’s parent company) — they wanted to offer Asher an opportunity to be featured in not only their ad, but also in their upcoming holiday photoshoot which would be run on their many digital channels including their website! They had decided to launch a positivity campaign and wanted Asher to be the star of the campaign![rsnippet id=”5″ name=”DFP/34009881/Article_2″]
Asher is only 15 months old, but he’s such a social butterfly that he immediately won everyone’s hearts at the big business meeting. He’s just such a happy kid and loves to be around people! He walked into the meeting waving both hands, and by the end, he was blowing kisses to them. How adorable is that?
“It was nice of them to see what I’ve been saying about Asher,” Meagan said.
The big guys at Carter’s loved Asher so much that they called him back to participate in a casting call and photoshoot scheduled for a few months after the holiday shoot. Asher was over the moon!
But Meagan sees the big picture. Of course she’s happy that her son got his big break, but she says that the important thing is for [companies like OshKosh] to start including people with disabilities in their campaigns and to create a culture of inclusion. People with disabilities shouldn’t be seen differently, and she hopes that Asher’s photoshoot will bring the whole society one step closer to true equality.
