A violent standoff incident took place in Florida recently, which reportedly involved two young children opening fire on law enforcement officers.
Local media reports confirmed how the suspects including a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old girl. Now, authorities claim that the duo is facing charges relating to attempted first-degree murder for police officers, alongside charges for armed burglary. Officials also confirmed how the children made use of weapons that included shotguns an AK-47 rifle that they had stolen.
The kids used these weapons with an intention to kill the cops, confirmed Florida’s Sheriff Mike Chitwood from Volusia County.
“They were coming out to kill the officers,” he boldly exclaimed in a recent press interview, as he spoke about how the children kept on firing bullets in a repeated manner for around 30 minutes.
Now, bodycam footage of the shocking incident is going viral after it was just released by authorities recently. Here, the harrowing footage of Tuesday’s incident shows the children who have been identified as Travis O’Brien and Nicole Jackson, carrying out the heinous crime after running away from their foster home.
Police have been on the hunt for the kids because investigations into the children’s profiles revealed how the young male suspect is diabetic, and hence could be in potential danger of facing a critical medical emergency due to a massive delay in his medication.
Cops claim that as they were searching for the suspects, they heard the shattering of glass in a home located nearby. And that’s when police were made aware of crucial signs indicating forced entry.
In the footage, officers quickly approach the residence and see the girl carrying a gun. And that’s when the kids both begin firing bullets at the deputies.
At the start, the deputies failed to return fire and instead did their level best to try and de-escalate the entry situation. But with time, the bodycam footage revealed how the matter started getting worst and that’s when the young girl pointed her shotgun directly at the officers.
Despite being warned not to fire, she continued to do so and in the end, the officers had no choice but to fire. Bullets hit her arm and chest, and she was immediately rushed to the hospital, where reports claim she is in stable condition now.
The sheriff revealed how proud he was of his officers for showing restraint as the children resorted to nothing but pure evil throughout the incident. In the same way, he spoke about how most of the kids’ conversations revolved around how they were out to kill the cops.
