Chinese children are required to wear ‘one-meter hats’ to keep social distancing in class as they go back to school after COVID-19 lockdown.
The viral video shows students wearing adorable homemade hats with sticks on both sides to make sure they are keeping a safe distance in class.
This comes as students across the country have gone back to school after a three-month coronavirus lockdown as China continues to relax travel restrictions.
Yangzheng Primary School in eastern China suggested the ‘one-meter hats’ as staff welcomed their students in year 1 to 3.
The school principal, Mr. Hong, said the homemade hats would help the children keep social distancing in class.
He told the press: “We encourage our students to wear the one-meter hats to stay at least one meter (three feet) away from each other.”
Teachers had asked the students to make the hats with their parents or guardians at home before going back to school. They were also told to have no physical contacts with their schoolmates.
A video shared online shows children listening to their teacher while wearing their hand-made hats.
As China sees a steady drop in its active COVID-19 cases, the country has been relaxing its travel restrictions.
Wuhan, where the outbreak started, claimed it has discharged all coronavirus parents from hospitals.
All universities and schools must impose strict preventive measures to prevent the infection from spreading, including disinfecting the campus, setting up quarantine areas, and distributing free face masks.
Schools are also required to install screening facilities to monitor people’s temperatures.
18-year-old Hang Huan from Shanghai said: “I’m glad, it’s been too long since I’ve seen my classmates. I’ve missed them a lot.”
