Whenever I’m prescribed medication for something, I put my trust in my doctors and pharmacists.
I believe they know what’s best and what will help me feel better quickly. I’ve never questioned their choices, or the companies that make the medications I need.
But recently several children’s medications were recalled because they contain a potentially harmful ingredient.

Raritan Pharmaceuticals, a drug manufacturer, recalled three homeopathic medications because of abnormalities in the drugs’ ingredients.
The medicines were pulled from CVS stores and include: CVS ear relief liquid, CVS infant teething tablets, and Kids Relief ear relief oral liquid.
All three are believed to have increased doses of belladonna, which is toxic in large amounts. Belladonna is also called Deadly Nightshade. It is a plant that can cause hallucinations and delirium.

Belladonna is frequently used in many medications and has been used medicinally for years. It’s also been used in cosmetics and poisons. But only in small amounts is the effect of the substance innocuous.
The plant is incredibly common and can be found all over the world. It’s native to Africa, Asia, and Europe, and has been introduced to some parts of Canada and the United States. It is one of the most toxic plants grown in these parts of the world.
While it might sound like it’s straight from an old Batman film, this nemesis is no joke for kids who are using this medication. An already toxic substance, belladonna could have profound effects on a baby or child.

If ingested in large amounts, belladonna can have unpredictable psychological effects.
Many people choose medications from Raritan Pharmaceuticals because they feel they are a safe alternative to other more harmful drugs. Many don’t think twice before administering these medications to their children.
And they shouldn’t have to.
