Sriracha hot chilli sauce has been recalled across Australia from Coles, Woolwoths, and IGA over fears bottles could explode when opened.
The NSW Food Authority warned the bottles of the popular chilli sauce could explode when opened.
The defect can cause certain bottles to ‘bloat’ and the sauce to continue to ferment.
People who have bought the Sriracha hot chilli sauce bottles from Coles, Woolwoths and IGA, and independent supermarkets and Asian food shops, are urged to return them immediately for a full refund.
Sriracha hot chilli sauce 17oz and 28oz, sold in a plastic bottle, with a best before date of March 2021 has been recalled. If you have bought the bottle, return it immediately for a full refund as it can explode when opened.
The product, which is distributed by Kien Fat Trading, was recalled earlier in Europe and the U.S. due to the same problem.
The NSW Food Authority’s Twitter page tweeted: ‘Kienfat Trading Pty Ltd is recalling Sriracha Hot Chilli Sauce 17oz and 28oz from Coles, Woolworths, IGA’s, Independants and Asian grocery stores nationally. Best before MAR 2021’.
Sriracha is a hot sauce or chili sauce made from a paste of chili peppers, distilled vinegar, garlic, sugar, and salt. In Thailand, Sriracha hot chilli sauce is used as a dipping sauce for seafood.
Sriracha hot chilli sauce is one of the most popular hot sauces in the world and is found in pantries and on restaurant tables.
However, the product has been recalled across Australia from major supermarkets including Coles, Woolwoths and IGA over fears bottles could explode when opened.
People are urged to return the product immediately if they have Sriracha hot chilli sauce 17oz and 28oz, sold in a plastic bottle, with a best before date of March 2021.
