Animals have feelings too.
They are full of emotions just like us. Talking about the chimpanzees, they are considered as the closest ones to the humankind in all aspects.
This 59-year-old chimpanzee was the oldest one alive in Europe. She was too weak to get out of bed or to eat food on her own. Her name was Mama, and she lived a happy life.
Mama was the matriarch of the Royal Burgers’ Zoo. She lived there for a very long period of her life. Mama lived there and had human friends. She was most attached to a Dutch biologist, Jan van Hooff.
Jan van Hooff was the founder of the colony in the zoo. He was a well-known researcher of primates. Mama and Jan met in 1972 for the first time and knew each other since then.
Jan came to know about mama’s illness, and he came to give her a visit. He stroked her head gently after looking at her condition. She was weak and lethargic.
He fed her, and mama ate the food without realizing who was feeding her. It took her some time, but when she finally noticed Hooff, she screamed out of excitement. She lovingly stroked his hair back and took her hand around his neck with an intention to hug him.
That was their last meeting, and she passed away soon after on April 5, 2016. Hooff says he will miss Mama and her affection for him.
