Chrissy Teigen came to Meghan Markle’s defense after the duchess opened up about her recent miscarriage.
In an essay for the New York Times, the Duchess of Sussex detailed the devastating ‘July morning’ when she ‘knew (she) was losing (her) second child.’
“After changing [Archie’s] diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right,” she wrote.
“I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second. Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand,” Meghan recalled.
“I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we’d heal.”
She also noted that “losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few.”
But Meghan’s heartbreaking essay received criticism when one Twitter user said that she wrote the story with selfish intent.
“Is anyone really questioning the pain and sheer awfulness of suffering a miscarriage, or are they perhaps criticizing Meghan’s decision to write a 1,000 word op-Ed about herself?” Marco Giannangeli wrote on Twitter.
Teigen, who also suffered a miscarriage, came to Meghan’s defense and wrote: “Award for today’s absolute piece of s**t goes to Marco Giannangeli. Congratulations, piece of s**t.”
She later deleted her tweet and said: “Sorry forgot I’m trying to be nicer lol.”
The model admitted that she has taken a step back from social media after losing her baby Jack in September.
“I’m not tweeting much because I’m honestly in a bit of a grief depression hole but do not worry as I have so much help around me to get better and I’ll be fixed soon,” she wrote.
