Christmas is almost upon us and people around the world are starting to go into full gear to make sure that they’re fully prepared for the holidays.
That means last-minute Christmas shopping and perhaps a few extra sessions at the gym so that all the inevitable binge-eating won’t eat away too badly at one’s conscience.

Of course, people see Christmas a bit differently. Some people would slap on a miniature pre-made Christmas tree and declare that their holiday preparations are complete. Some people need to make more elaborate preparations. Some countries, such as in the Philippines, start the Christmas season much earlier, in September (in fact, it’s the country with the longest Christmas season in the world).
But for one grandfather from Leeds, he started his Christmas preparations a whole YEAR before the holidays. And it’s absolutely fabulous.
Steve Audsley devoted roughly 40 hours every week since January this year hand-crafting a fantastic light show that even came with music and animation.
Steve puts the switch on the 30-minute light show at his Gildersome home each night and will do so until Christmas.
The 49-year-old explained: “Last Christmas I was looking for something new to do.
“Every year I try and better my display, and found something similar in America by searching on Google.
“I got to work straight away and spent around 40 hours nearly every week, hand-making pretty much the whole thing.
“Every single pixel is hand-pushed, all handmade by me – designed by me with some little props.
“It is a tradition that is dying off in my eyes. As you get older you start to think about when you were a kid and what you enjoyed. For me that was Christmas.”
From Christmas classics by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby to more modern songs like Disney’s Frozen, there is a lot to entertain people of every age.
“The kids sing along when they see it. And yet there is something for everybody”, Steve added.
“I am always asked about the electricity bill, but I tell you. The whole thing runs off a 16-amp socket.
“It uses more power to boil a kettle than my entire 30-minute show.”
The show, on Church Gate in Gildersome, comes alive at 7:30 pm every night until Christmas Eve. Steve will also light the switch for New Year, too.
