Postal worker Melissa Stinsman works as a mail carrier for the Bloomsburg Post office in Pennsylvania.
After her shift, Melissa spends hours answering the letters for Father Christmas at her home.
The 26-year-old postal worker said: “I usually tell the kids to keep up their grades and to listen to their parents. One asked for a science kit so I told him that one day he could become a scientist.”
Last week, when she opened one nine-year-old boy’s letter, she was left heartbroken.
The boy made a Christmas wish list with eight requests and wrote at the bottom: “Dear Santa, I am going to star the top three items I really want.”
Two of the top three items were – 1 Food for Family 2 Clothing for Family
The envelope also had one more letter from the same boy that read: “Dear Santa, last year you didn’t notice me, so I hope this year you notice me, and this year I will be good. I pinkie promise.”
This left Melissa teary-eyed and she decided to help. She started finding where the boy lived using his full name and managed to find his address.
Melissa initially thought to gift a $50 gift card and asked for help. The post office started receiving donations and they were able to buy clothing, toys, more gift cards and even raised $500 in cash for the family’s help.
Melissa then visited the family before Christmas with the gifts and $500 in cash. She said: “Hi, this sounds weird but I work for the post office and I got your son’s letter. I’d like to help you guys this year.”
Melissa handed over the gift cards to the family but decided to surprise the little boy on Christmas Eve by gifting him toys and other donations.
