If you always browse Twitter or Instagram while walking to school or work, you’ll be amazed to know that there is now a texting lane in Manchester for people who walk around with their head stuck on their phones.
Pedestrians in Manchester’s Spinningfields can now keep on scrolling while walking down the road without having to worry about moving cars.
Spinningfields is an area full of restaurants, bars, and of course, people who spend all day on their gadgets. That’s why this is the best place to try this plan.
But this is not yet an officially sanctioned scheme as it is only a promotional stunt set up by AO Mobile, a new phone retailer.
According to research that they have seen, 75 percent of British people focus on their smartphones while walking around.
“We have to be realistic and responsible when it comes to the way society is changing,” said AO spokesman Richard Baxendale.
“Our research found Brits being distracted by technology when walking is becoming an issue people want tackled.
“Our trial slow lane is an important first step that may well be adopted by other cities in the future.
“AO Mobile is all about making mobile phones simpler and we wanted to highlight that people should pay attention to our new deals and customer service, rather than keeping their head down and missing out.”
There is nothing to fret as the texting lanes might not stay there forever. It is not clear as to whether the lanes will be sticking around for a longer time.
In the Chinese city of Chongqing, there are already enforced slow lanes there since 2014.
