Jeremy Clarkson really doesn’t like 16-year-old Greta Thunberg.
The former Top Gear presenter had previously laid into her a few times but his latest tirade has seen him describing the young activist as a “stupid idiot.”
Clarkson uttered the slur when he was being interviewed by The Independent regarding his remarks about Thunberg in his column in The Sun.
In a touch of irony that life sometimes throws at us, Clarkson’s daughter Emily has come out as a vocal supporter of Thunberg. To this end, the paper asked the 59-year-old presenter if he would change his views on Thunberg in light of his daughter’s support of the campaigner.
To this, Clarkson replied: “No. We’re never going to agree. She thinks that Greta Thunberg is this deity put on Earth. She’s Jesus, basically. Jesus-esque.
“Whereas I think she’s a weird Swede with a bad temper. Nothing will be achieved by sailing across the ocean in a diesel-powered yacht, and then lying about the diesel engine.”
Thunberg traveled by boat that mainly relied on wind power but had a backup diesel engine in case of emergencies (e.g. such as being becalmed in the middle of the ocean).
He continued: “And did you see she went to Chile for the climate conference which was then moved to Madrid? I literally s*** myself laughing.
“She’s an idiot because scientists will solve this, and nobody is going to solve it by running around and going on strike and not going to school, because then you’re not in your science lessons, so she’s a fool. I know you lot don’t think she is, which is fine.”
Earlier in the week, Clarkson pinned the blame on Thunberg for “killing the car show” and being the reason young people “hate cars.”
He added that Thunberg’s climate change campaign has caused young people to not want cars that utilize a lot of fossil fuels.
He also called her an “idiot” for “saying we’re all going to die” because such statements will not help her cause.
In an interview with The Sun, he said: “Everyone I know under 25 isn’t the slightest bit interested in cars – Greta Thunberg has killed the car show.
“They’re taught at school, before they say ‘Mommy and Daddy’, that cars are evil, and it’s in their heads.”
Although Clarkson hates climate change activism, he does accept the reality of global warming and that climate change is “definitely a thing.”
He will even tackle the topic on his next TV show, The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime. The Grand Tour presents: Seamen will stream on Amazon Prime Video on December 13.
