A Facebook page Rate My Plate has ignited an unusual food debate.
In the past, the unforgiving audience of the group has condemned people for things as trivial as trimming the edges of the bread and putting ketchup on roast dinner.
If you ever post any food article in the group, be ready for a response that, strictly speaking, might not be decent.
The newest debate started on this group is about a plate of ‘classic pasta and gravy’ form Kristi D. The response of the social media platform to the plate is a mix of negative and positive ones.
To some, the dish looks like “explosive diarrhea” added to a plate of normal pasta. One person went so far as to say that “it is definitely a classic Kristi. A classic example of sh** on a plate.”
While the majority of the responders didn’t have anything positive to say about the dish and went to all lengths to despise the delicacy, some did actually support it.
Some of the users said that they regularly eat the dish.
“I love pasta and gravy have it all the time,” a comment read. Another one said: “Honestly love pasta with gravy had it a few times this week.”
Clearly, there were people who branded the dish as an “abomination” to whole Italian cuisine.
If we check the etymology of the dish’s name, we can see that the word “gravy” is widely used among the Italian-American community and most of the time, it has the same meaning as the sauce.
However, the dish introduced by Kristi D might not be a part of the Italian cuisine at all.
Chances are, they might have adopted the dish from the mountainous areas of Austria or Germany where pasta like this is common and is called spätzle.
Someone commented in support of the dish, writing: “Spatzle (type of noodle; homemade of course) with rouladen and gravy is very very good.
“Always needs a good helping of braised red cabbage on the side.”
But the support was not discreetly for the plate shared in the group as the comment continued to say: “As for the above fusilli and gravy; that looks totally disgusting!”
