Activists advocating animal rights have slammed the owners of the claw machine with live puppies inside and reported the abuse to Chinese authorities.
In a video shared on social media, gamers were seen trying to grab young pups trapped inside a claw machine in an entertainment park somewhere in China.
There were around a dozen puppies inside the claw machine when the footage was taken. The arcade machine was represented by a sign reading: “someone please come to take me home.”
As the video rolled on, a man was seen pulling one of the animals out of the claw machine and wrapping it with his arms.
After the disturbing video went viral, activists urged the authorities to take action against animal abuse and ban devices from offering live pets.
One claw machine experts from China also spoke out in an interview with MailOnline and claimed the footage was most likely created for publicity purposes.
“To start with, it would not be financially viable for claw machine operators. They wouldn’t charge players 1 yuan per time but give them expensive prizes like this,” Chen Zhitong from Xiamen said.
The “king of claw machines” went on to explain that placing live dogs in claw machines isn’t a trend in his country. He did, however, admit that live crabs and lobsters can often be found in such machines in order for people to pick their food.
“That’s just sick! Why would anyone put innocent animals inside a claw machine for people to play with,” one person wrote after the video went viral.
“I can’t begin to imagine how scared these pups are,” another one added. “They’re all alone trapped in a small box having no idea what’s going to happen to them next!”
