Designer Clothing Company Released A Pair Of Denim ‘Underwear’ And Took The Internet By Storm


High-end fashion label Y Project released a pair of high-cut denim ‘brief-style’ shorts which feature a high-waist, zip front and a button at the waistband.

The item priced at a staggering $470 AUD ($315 US), comes in a range of colors including black, stone-wash and traditional blue denim.

A photo of shorts, which featured on an Instagram post by e-store SSENSE, comes with a caption: ‘Two words: Denim undies’.  

Since the pictures of shorts have been released, many people tagging leaving an array of comments.

Not shorts – denim underwear!’ said one on the Facebook group ‘I bought this at’.

‘’As much as I love wearing denim I won’t be wearing these!’’ Said another.

Ssense described the shorts as ‘navy denim panties’.

‘’Denim can be cheeky. And eye-catching,’’ the description continued.

‘’These brief-style shorts can be worn under or over pants, meaning they’re far more versatile than what you’d traditionally expect from a pair of briefs. Underwear that doesn’t need to stay “under there.’’

Well, this is not the first time the Y Project have raised eyebrows with their unusual denim designs. The label previously released a pair of detachable jeans which were able to be unhooked just below the crotch so allow these to be skimpy hot pant in seconds.

The garment, which is officially named the ‘cutout transformer cotton denim jean’ also came with a hefty price tag: £341 ($444 US).

The designer label is not only one who released a quirky item as Topshop also having previously released a line of totally clear plastic jeans.

Topshop’s head of design Mo Riach told Elle despite the controversy over the pants, the company held the view that it was worth creating an item that ‘disrupted’ and ‘got people talking’.

‘’It’s a positive thing. Debate and discussion is a positive thing, and we have our customers coming to our site as a result of that.’’

She added that the clear jeans were the result of her team deciding to take the vinyl trend ‘as far as it could go’.

‘’We have done a lot of clear mattes in the past and they’ve been really successful, so it’s like taking those trends and trying them out with denim,’’ she said.
