19 years ago Frances Kent’s family adopted Peanut. The family also had two dogs who instantly became his friends.
As the times passed, Peanut learned the language and behavior of his dog brothers and now, he guards Kent’s home with his siblings.
Kent told The Dodo: “He started copying the dogs from early on. When the dogs would run to bark at the gate, he would follow and do the same.”
“He is very affectionate, super intelligent and can be just as mischievous.”
“He’s been like a ‘mother hen’ to the dogs as puppies. Even today, he still cuddles them and also puts them in their place. He rules the roost!”, Kent added.
But, Peanut not only mimics dog’s barking, but he also mimics other antics of the dogs. His owner said:
“He mimics quite a few dog antics and even some human antics, too. He enjoys watching TV, playing ball with the dogs and he can be very loud!”
Recently, a video of Peanut went viral that shows him mimicking his guard dog brothers and barking with them.
The video was shared online and left everyone in stitches. The cockatoo mimics the dogs’ barking so well that it is hard to tell if it is really a dog or the cockatoo.
One user commented on the video: ‘I’d like to imagine the confusion for the mailmen’, while another wrote: ‘Funniest thing I’ve seen all day. Bet the neighbours LOVE it.’
The owner says Peanut is a very good boy and loves attention. He is not just a pet but family for them as he has been living with them for more than 19 years.
“Cockatoos are known as ‘velcro birds’ as they need a lot of attention and Peanut definitely demands it.”
“He is more than just a pet. He is family to us”, Kent said.
