Color-Blind Student Saw Color For The First Time Using Special Glasses

For people who have all their faculties and their body is functioning normally, it’s easy to take many things in life for granted.

Things that a person who is missing at least one of the faculties of a normal person would find daunting.

While being color blind is not necessarily on the same level as being actually blind or deaf or otherwise disabled, there are some cases when it can affect the way a person functions in society.

For instance, there is a type of color-blindness where one can’t distinguish the colors of the traffic signals, making driving a dangerous affair for that person.

In any case, sometimes one never really knows what one is missing so when something happens so that one experiences the world as it is, it can be so empowering.

That’s what a teacher and her students did when they surprised a color-blind student with special glasses that allowed him to see color for the very first time.

Lynley Carey was teaching an early childhood education class at the University of Rio Grande in Jackson, Ohio. She and her students decided to surprise Seth Blesdoe, one of the students who happened to be color blind, with a set of Enchroma sunglasses so that he could finally see color.

Classmate Shannon French, 20, recorded the heartwarming moment when they gave the give to Seth on October 31 during class.

Lynley told Seth to sit down as she handed him the life-changing present. She added that the gift would immensely improve one’s ability to teach.

Seth starts opening the box and sees the branded box. Upon reading the accompanying letter, he realized what he was holding and starts to get emotional.

Once he puts on the glasses, he starts crying and a couple of his classmates start wiping away tears, too.

Holding the glasses in hands shaking with emotion, Seth describes how amazing it was to see color for the first time in his life.

Shannon said: “Seth has the best heart and you could see the joy of this moment in the video.

“He is so happy and said it was crazy what he’s been missing out on seeing.

“Seth is unable to see red and green like how we see it.

“No one deserved this more than Seth, he never fails to put a smile on my or anyone else’s face.

“He is a blessing to our community and I am so lucky to be one of his best friends.

“The tears were definitely happy and our hearts are always full around Seth.”
