What if you woke up from a coma, only to find yourself remembering nothing about the previous three years? What if you had to make an important life decision right then?
Although these what-if scenarios may seem unreal, this actually happened for a woman who woke up to find out that she was pregnant, and then had to decide whether to terminate her baby or not.
Gemma Holmes from Hilperton, England, was driving a scooter when a terrible road accident happened, resulting in extensive injuries including a broken back.
She was in a coma, and the chances of her survival was slim to none.
Miraculously, though, she woke up. But her family had to deal with another devastating news when she did.

It turned out that she had developed a severe memory loss, resulting in her to forget everything about the last three years. The fact that she was 12-weeks pregnant came as a surprise to her, too.
Because she was in coma, doctors turned to her mother, Julie, to decide whether or not to keep the baby.
They suggested termination, because Gemma would not be able to fix her back until she gave birth.
Instead of making the decision for her, Julie eventually decided to wait until her daughter was awake.
But, since she forgot everything about her pregnancy, Gemma was undoubtedly shocked that she’d have to make a decision about a baby that she didn’t even know she had.
Ultimately, though, Gemma decided to keep the baby.
In the interview with the Daily Mail, she said, “I just thought that if this little baby inside me had managed to survive the awful crash, then he was meant to be.”

Gemma amazingly endured the whole pregnancy without high doses of painkillers, because it could harm her unborn baby. And, thankfully, she gave birth to her son – Ruben Miracle Holmes by C-section.
Gemma and her son doing incredibly well, and she is actually getting various tests to see if she could get an operation to walk again.
“Ruben’s my little miracle, and I really hope I will one day be able to run around with him,” said Gemma.
