Without humor, our life would become colorless. Comedians are like those magicians who add color to our life, and sometimes in quest of making us laugh, they had to pay a hefty price.
The famous French-Canadian comedian Mike Ward was recently in a controversy to joke about a disabled signer. And he was ordered to pay $35,000 for making such disheartening comments.
He made an appeal against the decision and but the Quebec Court of Appeal is still sticking to the original decision as the matter is literally sensitive.
Ward cracked a joke about Jeremy Gabriel back in 2010 and 2013 who suffered from Treacher Collins syndrome and sang for Pope and Celine Dion.
Ward said that people were considerate and sympathetic towards Gabriel because of his terminal illness and not because of his singing talent.
He further added to the joke by saying that people said he is dying let him live his dream, but fiver years later, he is still alive.
With this statement, Ward was intending to bring down the singer by saying he is not dead yet. In 2016, The Quebec’s Human Rights Tribunal summoned Ward, and it was found that he discriminated Gabriel and his parents for making such disrespectful comments.
He was asked to pay $35,000 for the moral and punitive damage he caused to Gabriel and his family. Additionally, he was asked to pay $7,000 to his mother.
Ward made an appeal to change the decision, but after his many efforts, the Appellate Court didn’t change their decision. He took to the online platform to depict his situation to his fans.
He shammed the Canadian government for its decision. He said that’s the worst part of the Cannada government, and especially Quebec’s government, they make you pay $35,000 for telling a joke.
