Thirty years ago, Coming to America hit the theatres and now, its sequel is being filmed.
The sequel of the original film released in 1988 will star Eddie Murphy, Prince Akeem, and Arsenio Hall.
All three of them were spotted landing in Georgia on Thursday. Fifty-eight-years-old Murphy was photographed getting out of a private jet with his girlfriend Paige Butcher and co-star Arsenio Hall.
The original plot involved Akeem traveling to New York to escape an arranged marriage as well as finding a wife. In its part two, Coming 2 America, Eddie will play the role of Akeem as he finds that he has a long lost son in the U.S.A.
Following which he shall return to America to meet the heir to Zamunda’s throne. Obeying his father’s last wishes, Akeem must find the son and groom him to become the next prince of Zamunda as he himself takes up the throne to be the king.
Shari Headley also will join Eddie in the sequel.
The fifty-five-years-old will play the role of Lisa McDowell, the love interest and future of Eddie’s character. Venessa Bell Calloway will also come back to play Akeem’s arranged bride, Iman Izzi.
The sequel will also star James Earl Jones, Leslie Jones, Wesley Snipes, and Kiki Layne. Kiki will play the role of his daughter in the movie while Snipes will play General Izzi.
Eddie will produce along with Kenya Barris and Kevin Misher while Craig Brewer will direct the Paramount project.
The original film was a hit in June 1988 and brought in at least $288 million worldwide including earning $126 million domestically. It also bagged two Academy Awards for Best Makeup and Best Costume Design.
The sequel is set to release on 18th December 2020.
