A Chinese company is facing criticisms after claiming that eating dogs is a way for people to show their ‘cultural confidence.
’
The Fankuai Dog Meat firm from eastern China made the vile statement in a blog post while protesting against a proposed law that bans everyone from eating wild animals and pets.
They even claimed that policymakers in Shenzhen city only drafted the proposed law to appease the West.
Fankuai offers a wide range of dishes, including spicy meat dog, dog meat braised in a turtle broth, and hand-shredded dog meat.
The company, which was named after an ancient Chinese general who made a living by killing canines, published the statement to condemn the potential law from the city of Shenzhen.
The firm even blasted Shenzhen’s plan as a “denial to thousands of years of Chinese food culture.” It also said that it supported Beijing’s new law to ban the consumption of wild animals but criticized Shenzhen for including ‘livestock.’
It also argued that people in other provinces “have a history of eating dogs for two to three thousand years,” thus the proposal “strips people of their freedom of eating dog meat.”
It added: “Extreme dog lovers are influenced by the extremist thoughts from the West and appease Western rubbish culture without limit.”
One internet user commented: “The epicenter of diseases and there is a reason why. Why subject the rest of the world to diseases by your eating practices? You can’t continue to do this and then travel the world.”
Another wrote: “Let them sickos eat what they want. Just don’t let them over here anymore. Disgusting. Eat dogs and other weird animals as if that isn’t the cause of what the world is having a problem with now.”
A third added: “If they insist on continuing with this practice, its time we cut all ties with China. And that includes all Trade and Tourism. They are polluting the rest of the world and this has to stop.”
