A conference on the effects of coronavirus on the business world was canceled due to the unpredictable outbreak of Covid-19 in New York.
The Doing Business Under Coronavirus event organized by the Council on Foreign Relations was supposed to gather minds to discuss the impacts the outbreak is having on businesses.
However, after more than 170 confirmed cases in the state, the organizers decided the event should be canceled to reduce the risks of spreading the disease.
In addition to the conference on coronavirus, similar conferences across the state and the country had to be ditched after a spike in confirmed cases in the US.
The news followed as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the New Rochelle community would be quarantined due to being the epicenter of the outbreak in the state.
“It is a dramatic action, but it is the largest cluster in the country. And this is literally a matter of life and death,” Governor Cuomo expressed.
Following over one hundred confirmed cases in Westchester County, the health system also decided to open a testing facility in the area.
“New Rochelle at this point is probably the largest cluster in the US of these cases and it is a significant issue for us,” the governor added.
“The numbers have been going up. The numbers continue to go up. The numbers are going up unabated. And we do need a special public health strategy for New Rochelle.”
As Dr. Howard Zucker, an N.Y. Health Commissioner, added, he and other health officials decided to switch from a containment strategy to mitigation to deal with the issues at hand.
“It’s not a decision that I’m making. I’m accepting the recommendation of Dr. Zucker. In a situation like this, whether you’re president, mayor, governor, let the experts decide and let the science decide the situation,” Cuomo concluded.
