Conjoined twin sisters who have been dubbed ‘inspirational’ have appeared on TV as they were learning how to drive.
18-year-old Carmen and Lupita from Connecticut appeared in the documentary ‘Two Sisters, One Body’ by Channel 4 in which they were seen opening up about their lives and learning how to drive.
The Mexican-born twins have become an inspiration for many after learning how to live with one another and refusing to be separated even if it could be done without endangering their lives.
Carmen and Lupita are omphalopagus twins who share several ribs, digestive and reproductive systems, and a liver. Nevertheless, they each have their own heart, stomach, and lungs.
Despite growing up in each other’s presence, the two girls have completely different personalities whereas Lupita is of a quiet nature while her sister Carmen is more outgoing and loves to wear makeup.
Speaking of their decision to have their dad teach them how to drive, the twins expressed that having a driving license would make them more independent.
“Carmen wants to get her license soon, so we can be more independent… I put the turn signals on and that’s pretty much it,” Lupita said.
Her sister Carmen added:
“I have the right leg, I’m a little bit taller than her – not by much – we tried letting her drive, like hold the steering wheel once and it didn’t really work.
“And my father wanted us to do my right arm and her right arm but that also didn’t work so I just do it myself. It’s been a lot of trial and error.”
Despite the setbacks they have been facing throughout their lives, Carmen and Lupita maintain a positive attitude and feel happy with the way they are.
