Donnie and Ronnie Galyon, the world’s oldest conjoined twins, have passed away aged 68 at the Hospice of Dayton in Ohio.
Before they moved into the hospice, the twins spent the last ten years living with their brother Jim after volunteers worked together to construct an extension on his home.
“I am grateful to the community for what they did to help Ronnie and Donnie move into their house,” Jim said, WHIO reported.
“This allowed them to live with their family for the last 10 years.”
The twins, who were connected at the abdominal area, started working in carnivals and circuses as children to earn money for their family until they retired from the industry in 1991.
In 2014, they managed to enter the Guinness World Records after surpassing the lifespan of conjoined twins Eng and Chang Bunker and also Giovanni and Giacomo Battista Tocci.
Viewers were recently inspired and amazed by the determination and courage of conjoined twins who appeared in Two Sisters, One Body documentary on Channel 4.
The episode focuses on the lives of Lupita and Carmen, 18, from Connecticut as they live with their condition.
“Carmen wants to get her license soon, so we can be more independent… I put the turn signals on and that’s pretty much it,” Lupita said.
“I have the right leg, I’m a little bit taller than her – not by much – we tried letting her drive, like hold the steering wheel once and it didn’t really work,” Carmen added. “And my father wanted us to do my right arm and her right arm but that also didn’t work so I just do it myself. It’s been a lot of trial and error.”
