People do not like when they are commented because of their appearance or are bullied in different ways. When it comes to conjoined twins, then they lead a stressful life because people see and treat them differently.
Thankfully because of the great modern medicine it has become easy to separate the conjoined twins so that they can also live a healthy life like others.
One recent case about the separation of the Utah twins Kendra and Maliyah Herrin tells how important the separation was for them.
Kendra and Maliyah were born in 2002, and they had a lot of issues because of their conjoined nature. The twins also faced a lot of developmental difficulties because they shared only two legs and one liver between them.
The tricky part for the twins was to share only one kidney between them as it was difficult for them to survive separately according to the Physicians.
Thankfully they survive because of their and their parent’s bravery and faith. According to the experts, it was difficult for the twins to survive if each one of them didn’t have one kidney at least.
The separation surgery was the best thing that could have happened to them for the benefits of their personal and social life both.
Kendra and Maliyah were separated when they were four years old, and the procedure was 26 hours long. Though both the twins were left with only one leg after the surgery the best part was that they got their lives independently.
Maliyah told the Health that she doesn’t remember any pain from the surgery, but she does remember how successfully they started jumping after the surgery.
Maliyah is the one who has the original kidney and Kendra was donated a kidney by her mother. Though after some time Kendra’s body rejected the organ but then soon they found a donor.
The 17-year-old girls happily attend their high school in walkers and rolling chairs, and till now they haven’t experienced any bullying in the school.
The girls are trying their best to lose their walkers and gain their mobility back because they are grateful to have their independence. The twins have inspired a lot of people with their bravery and faith in making things work for them.
