There are good people in the world who don’t do others a good turn for popularity but simply because it’s the right thing to do.
For one police officer, no one would have known about his good deed if not for a random audit of his bodycam video which his supervisor discovered.
The footage from January shows Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Nick Boney helping a mom make it home in time for her one-year-old daughter’s birthday. He even provided the cake and joined the family for the celebration.
The mother can be seen standing on a street corner at night holding the birthday balloons.
Boney asks her, “How you doing ma’am? Where are you trying to get to?”
“Home,” she says.
“You want a ride?” he asks.
“Please,” she replies.
After a soft but heartfelt “thank you,” she says that it’s her daughter’s first birthday.
As Boney is escorting her to the police car, she adds, “I want to give her a cake.”
Boney then does something unexpected and tells Officer Jimmy Wilson to take his credit card and go buy a cake that had a No. 1 birthday candle. The sergeant then offers the cake to the surprised mom.
The grateful mom then invites Boney inside where he meets her daughter and family.
Two young kids are seen running up to the officer to give him hugs. The mom also presents the officer with the birthday celebrant.
“You’re so cute,” Boney gushes as he gently touches the child.
The mom then goes on to introduce her mother and father.
“How you all doing today,” the sergeant told them.
Before the candle is lit, Boney can be seen playing with the children and even joins in singing “Happy birthday.”
Just before he leaves to go back on patrol, Boney helps cut the cake.
This truly was a class act. More power to him and here’s to hoping there’s more of these gracious cops out there!
Replaced!
