There are so many unpleasant incidents happening around the world, and we get disturbed by reading or listening to these negative stories. But, still, there are humanity alive. Some people make us believe that humanity and positivity never dies.
According to the JoCo Report, Sgt. Scott Bass from the Nash County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina saw a woman who used to walk regularly for her work. Her name was Jaylesya Corbett, and she used to walk 12 miles away from her house every day.
One day he stops her and talks to her and this very first and long discussion.
“One morning at this intersection I saw a young female walking, and it was really, really cold,” he explained to WTVD. “I could see by her dress that she worked for Bojangles.”
She works for Bojangles in Nashville more than six miles away. She used to take 2 hours from home to get to work, and two hours to return home.
Bass always tried to help her by giving her lift, In the cold and rainy days, he used to pick her up. Bass was worried for her yet impressed by her hard work.
He always wanted to help her. “It just kinda really weighed on me and bothered me, and every day that I gave her a ride I just, for some reason just talked to my wife about her,” Bass said.
“I wanted to help Jaylesya because she walks six miles to work every day regardless of the temperature, rain or shine, stands on her feet during her entire shift and walks six miles under the same conditions back to her home, and that is truly admirable. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know her and wanted somehow to lessen her burden of that 12-mile walk.” He told the Rocky Mountain Telegram.
So he shared the problem of Corbett with the management of a local Walmart. Then they decided that they could help her.
The big-box store donated a brand new Schwinn Fairhaven Women’s Cruiser Bike to Corbett so now she will not be walking this long way. The funny thing is, when the Bass asked to meet her, she was scared and thought that he wanted to scold her.
“I was shocked,” she said. “I didn’t think it was real.”
“I was truly humbled by Sgt. Bass’ efforts when he asked if it was OK to help Jaylesya and to see the happiness and joy he brought to her by his actions,” said Chief Deputy Brandon Medina, from Nash County Sheriff’s office.
But, this was real. Thanks to Bass for making her life easier.
