Cops TV Show Resumes Production Months After It Was Canceled Over Anti-Police Protests


Cops, one of the longest-running reality TV shows in the country, has resumed production months after it was canceled due to the civil unrest inspired by the death of George Floyd.

While the show, which had started back in 1989, is back in production, the new episodes will no longer air in the United States whereas Paramount Networks has confirmed they have ditched the series for good.

According to the show’s producers, they have resumed production of the controversial series due to their obligations to foreign networks which have bought the rights to the upcoming season prior to the show’s cancellation in June.

As Langley Productions announced, the new episodes aim to “fulfill commitments in international territories where Cops still airs.”

Meanwhile, however, it has been confirmed that these episodes will not air in the US whereas the Paramount Network announced they “don’t have any current or future plans” for the show to return to the US network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production has already resumed whereas the crew has already taken to Spokane County, Washington, where the show was regularly shot.

“We have a longstanding relationship with Cops and series producer Langley Productions, and we are pleased they have decided to return, highlighting the outstanding work our deputies provide to all of you,” Spokane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement.

The filming crew is expected to stay in the county until November.
