An elderly coronavirus survivor was caught on camera receiving applause by the hospital staff as she was discharged after beating COVID-19.
The happy moment occurred at Medihelp Clinic in Cartagena, Colombia, where an 85-year-old Briton tourist was rushed after contracting the deadly virus on a cruise ship.
After successfully beating the virus, the woman was discharged from the hospital and rewarded with loud applause from the staff who gathered along the hallway to congratulate the senior.
Joining the 85-year-old was also her son, John, who flew from the UK to be by his mother’s side during her battle with the disease.
While the pair will most likely remain in the country until international flights resume, John couldn’t be happier due to his mum’s fast recovery.
“I am the son of my mum who is a patient at the hospital here. On March 8 she was diagnosed with Covid-19 and brought to the hospital from a cruise ship,” John said in an emotional speech outside the hospital before his mother was discharged.
“My experience of the clinic has been fantastic. I’ve been kept informed every time I’ve asked about my mum when I’ve not been in Colombia but also when I have been here.
“I’ve been really impressed by the standards of medical care from the nurses and doctors. I’ve been impressed by their dedication and professionalism. Their level of knowledge and communication has put my mind at ease.”
As John added according to The Daily Mail report, he credits the hospital staff for saving his mum’s life.
“She was critical when she reached the hospital and how she is much much better,” he added.
