A couple from South Carolina has more than 200 dolls who they call their ‘plastic children’.
Madeline and Malachi Dressel love collecting dolls and started collecting dolls in 2016. The couple now has more than 200 dolls, including 30 life-sized dolls.
Mrs. Dressel has always loved collecting dolls but her husband started loving dolls only after they moved in together.
Mrs. Dressel says about her doll collection: “The majority of our collection together, especially the large dolls, has been the last three years.”
“About 2016 is when we stumbled upon the first big [doll] at the thrift store. And it really grew from there.”
Malachi told Barcroft TV: “She has certain ones that are just hers and then I have ones that are mine.”
The couple shares their family photos with their dolls on their Instagram page (@all.my.plastic.children) and is often mocked by the Internet users for having dolls.
Mrs. Dressel: “I think most people actually… when it’s explained to them a little bit in context, they think it’s pretty interesting, it’s pretty funny.”
“They may not want to meet the actual dolls in person themselves but they get a kick out of the picture and the idea.”
“If we are going to be the creepy doll people, we are going to own it.”
The couple even takes their dolls for shopping. The couple says that they are not embarrassed that they love collecting dolls.
Mrs.
Dressel said: “I’m not shy about showing people Instagram. When I get that dreaded question, “What do you do for fun?” – well, let me show you what I do for fun and we’ll find out if we’re going to be friends or not.”
However, some of their friends find their hobby a little weird. Malachi’s friend Michael found it weird when he was invited to their dolls’ tea parties on Madeline’s birthday. But, he understands that it is their hobby and they love it.
