Alex May and Rebecca, who both enjoy the comfort of working from home, found their adorable cat was getting very clingy and demanding more attention than they could give.
But the genius couple from London came up with a brilliant idea to keep their feline friend happy! They created a fake lap for 10-year-old Ziggy to cuddle on.
It was three years ago when the couple adopted the loving feline.
29-year-old Rebecca said to Metro: “When she bonds with someone it’s just really intense. She absolutely has to sit on you.
“She’s almost on you before you’ve even sat down – she’ll see that you’re near the sofa and her eyes go black, her ears go flat like you’re a target. Once you’re down, she’s there.”
This may sound sweet and lovely but when you have to work and there are many tasks waiting for you, it can result in delays.
Rebecca, a freelance marketing consultant, was working when playful Ziggy started climbing over the table and her laptop.
“Even if you’re not sitting, she’ll find some way to be on you, whether it’s your back or your shoulder. When we’re both sat at our desks, she will sit behind you and yell until she has your attention,” she shared.
That’s when the husband and wife decided to make a fake lap for their beloved Ziggy.
Made from pants stuffed with a duvet cover and trainers, the fake lap also features a heating pad for extra realism.
In an interview with The Dodo, Rebecca said: “Ziggy loved it. He [Alex] thought that creating a decoy would be funny, but I don’t think he expected it to actually work.”
The couple shared their story on Reddit where it quickly went viral.
One person commented: “That is great! Kudos for such a good idea. The cat is happy, and it made me LOL.”
Another wrote: “Spectacular. Wholesome. Warms my heart. Please give her an extra smooch tonight, from me.”
