If you’ve flown on a plane where there are children on board, especially toddlers, you can confirm the fact that it is extremely irritating to hear them cry throughout the flight.
However, the case was opposite with the people on this flight, flying with a couple who had an eight-day-old with them. In fact, the presence of Dustin Moore and his wife Caren and their little daughter gave the people on the flight an extremely rare experience.
It was November 2019 when Dustin and Caren boarded a Southwest Airlines jet on their way back home to California. They had just adopted an eight-day-old girl from Colorado.
Boarding the plane, the first thing Dustin did was to apologize to the other passengers.
He was barely carrying four heavy bags through the aisle and Caren was following him with their girl in her hands.
Dustin and Caren had the idea that they were going to be a big source of trouble for the people sitting near them on the flight.
The couple tried nine long years to have a baby but couldn’t have a biological child of their own. So they were extremely delighted and excited about being blessed with their “first baby.”
They had hardly started adapting to their new roles as parents of an eight-day-old and little did they know about the surprise the fellow passengers had for them.
About halfway into the flight, the baby woke up and started crying as she needed to have her diaper changed.
The couple asked a flight attendant, Jenny, to give them some private space for changing the diaper and she was kind enough to give them some privacy at the back of the plane.
After they had changed the diaper, Jenny and another passenger asked the couple why they were on a plane with such a young baby.
They told them the story of adopting the baby and told them they were headed back home.
After around 10 minutes, another flight attendant, Bobby, came to the couple and asked them the same thing and they narrated their story again.
A few moments later, Bobby was heard speaking on the intercom.
He told the passengers that there was a special guest on the plane, the little girl Dustin and Caren had just adopted.
He said: “She’s just been adopted by her parents Caren and Dustin and is making her way home.”
All the passengers of the flight cheered and applauded at this point.
To make the journey back home a memorable one for the new parents, the cabin crew handed pens and napkins to all the people on the flight to write some wishes and pieces of advice for the couple.
Bobby read out some of them on the intercom.
They said: “Rub each other’s feet, and rub the baby’s feet.”
“Make time for date night.”
“Always tell her you love her.”
“Enjoy every minute. It goes by sooo very fast.”
The couple collected 60 of the messages from the flight and kept them in a photo album to pass them on to their daughter when she comes of age.
It is also to be noted that two of the flight attendants traveled on their honeymoon flights and got a similar response from the passengers – so in a way, they were just returning the favor.
After the incident, Dustin wrote on his Twitter account: “The outpouring of love from that flight, brought on by the actions of 2 thoughtfully observant flight attendants…it exceeds my ability to describe what it meant to us.point 334 |
